Bannister Ropes.com FAQ's:

Q How long is a Bannister Rope?
A  We can make it to the exact length you order.  All ropes tend to stretch slightly in use.  If, however, you require a marked drape between the support brackets, please select the ‘add 5%’ option.

Q How is the rope fixed to the bracket?
A The rope is fixed to the bracket by means of a cross screw, as shown here. The screw passes through the outside of the bracket, through the rope and then fixes into the main body of the bracket.

Q  How many support brackets do I need?
For a straight staircase, we recommend one per metre plus one extra. E.g a four metre rope will require five brackets. Corners: If your stair rope is to go around a corner then the length needs to be adjusted accordingly and an extra bracket is required. When entering the number of corners the length plus the number of brackets will automatically be adjusted.  However, please alter this number to suit your design if required. The brackets are normally fixed 6" - 8" (15 - 20cm) away from the corner of the wall.

Brackets will be fixed to the rope at equal distances UNLESS you specify otherwise in the "special instructions" section before you complete your order.

Q  How should the support brackets (brass, black or chrome) be fixed to the wall?
A  We recommend the use of our wooden mounts, one for each support bracket. You only need to provide suitable screws and wall plugs for fixing them to the wall - 2 screws per wooden mount.  It is important that this part of the work is carried out by a suitably qualified person. (Fitting Instructions)

Q  Are yarn samples available?
A  Yes, we will gladly send samples of yarn so that you can see the exact colour and feel the texture. Nb, Colours on your screen may vary slightly from the actual rope colour - If you require samples then please forward your name and address by email to: sales@outhwaites.com

Q  Can we order a Bannister Rope by Post?

Q  How long is delivery?
Bannister Ropes are normally despatched by carrier within two weeks from receipt of order.  N.B.  A signature is required on delivery.  Please ensure somebody is present to receive and sign for the Bannister Rope otherwise further delivery charges may be incurred.

UK deliveries: Please tell us if you are likely to be on holiday, in hospital or moving house within a month of ordering.  We usually despatch within 14 days but this may alter during busy times.  Failure to follow this advice may result in a further charge for carriage as the carrier company will only try to deliver your parcel twice then an extra charge is levied.  Please respond to their card promptly.  If no response is received from you they will return the parcel to us thus incurring further charges.  Please give us the information we need to enable us to deliver your goods promptly and hassle free.

Q  Do Bannister Ropes comply with the Buildings Regulations
Building regulations apply to the provision of hand rails.  However, the relevant section of the current Regulations does not refer to the use and suitability of a different types of hand rail.  We therefore advertise our Bannister Ropes as a helpful extra hand rail for the elderly and very young as well as providing an attractive feature for the wall side of your stairs.   We recommend you consult your local authority Buildings Inspection Department for clarity on this issue.

Q  Can a Bannister Rope be cleaned?
A  Please see cleaning instructions (download file).
